Linda (Schiller) Wood confirmed for me last night that the person mentioned in the obituaries was, in fact, Randy Lashley from the Jennings Class of 1965. Linda said that he had been diagnosed with a disease similar to ALS and that the class had been in touch with Randy's wife since last fall. Randy was hoping to make it to his class reunion in July.
Linda also told me that they currently have 126 people signed up for their reunion. There presently are two registered from our class. Linda wanted everyone to know that they are still accepting reservations from members of ANY Jennings High School graduating class who would like to attend. The Class of 1965 40th reunion will be held at Syberg's Banquet Center at Dorsett Road and I -270 in Maryland Heights, MO on Saturday, July 23, 2005. The cost is $40 per person. Details are attached. (126 attendees with more than a month to go? Wow!!) It should be quite a party.
Warm regards,
Terry

Randell C. Lashley (Class of 1965)
Monday's Post-Dispatch Obituaries section indicated that Randell C. Lashley had passed away (there's a photo too). I assume that is the same Randy Lashley who was in the class of 1965. In my 1964 Jen Echo, he is listed as Randy Lashley, but in the 1963 book, his whole first name is spelled out: Randell Lashley. That is a unique enough spelling (Randell rather than Randall) which caused me to draw the conclusion and any of us who knew Randy would agree that the photo below is definitely him. Randy was 59 years old. The obit also stated that he had a sister named Sandra Kay Lashley. I could not find her in the yearbooks, but seem to recall that name as well.Warm regards and stay well,
Terry

Mrs. Brown and Brian Enjoy a Visit

Brian Brown recently flew in from San Francisco and spent an extended weekend visiting his mom, Anita, at a senior care facility in Carbondale, IL. Brian sent along this photo of the two of them. Anita had turned 90 years young last Christmas Eve. Those who remember Mrs. Brown from high school days would immediately recognize her. We should all look so good at 90.

Diane Walker's Apartment "Spared" by Hurricane "Charley"
Shortly after returning to Florida after attending the reunion celebration, Diane Walker had to deal with two hurricanes at her home in Punta Gorda. Here is the first email from Diane:

Hello,
Please bear with me.....I am finally up and running again after "Charley" did his thing here in Punta Gorda, Fla.!!!!!!!
I am going to try and send you some "Hurricane" pictures. I am pretty sure the first one will be of my apartment building...keep in mind of what it looks like as the photos to follow are of houses just across the street from where I live!
Di's Neighbor Not So Lucky!
OK, this is the picture I really wanted you to see. This house and the other picture of a house I sent you are directly across the street from me. The tree through the building is a garage right next to the building I live in. Hope I sent these the right way. Terry, can you put these on the high school web page with an explanation?
My computer will be down for awhile as "Ivan" is going to pay a visit around Monday. I'm leaving and taking my computer and TV with me this time!!!!

And, finally, this email from Tom Nax
thmsnx@peoplepc.com"OMG! I think I still have that spiffy sport coat! I haven't perused the website in quite some time. Just now going through it. It's quite impressive. I know a few of you crazies. Put me on the list!"
"Looks like the 40th was a big success. Sorry I wasn't there. I sure wish there were names under those pictures. I tried going through the '64 yearbook to match up some faces, but didn't have much success. I pegged Mike Stabile (that mug will never change!), Karen Pluemer, and that's about all. My memories are faded, you know?"

August 19, 2004

The Jennings High School Class of 1964's 40th Reunion was a huge success. We enjoyed "resort weather"...better than anyone could expect for the first weekend in August. The Holiday Inn Riverport facility was perfect for our group and the food was excellent. The class enjoyed cocktails on the patio overlooking the lake with clusters of conversation popping up everywhere. The hotel staff went out of their way to help make the evening enjoyable for all. Our sincere thanks to everyone who attended and particularly those who traveled great distances to reunite with classmates.
Glenn Taylor seized the opportunity to make Joan and Jim Newsom honorary members of the Class of 1964. They have been to our last two reunions and still look younger than the rest of us. Welcome new classmates!
Photos of the evening have begun to trickle in and will, eventually, be posted on the Class of 1964 web site. We would like to ask that anyone with photos of the reunion please forward them to us. Details are on the web site.

Friday Night "Meet and Greet!"
There is just a bit more than a week left before our 40th reunion! A group of the "locals" along with a number of classmates who are arriving in town the day before the reunion are organizing an impromptu "Meet and Greet" happy hour beginning at 5:00 PM on Friday, August 6th at Krieger's Pub and Grill, 13735 Riverport Drive in Maryland Heights. This is the Krieger's restaurant located between the Holiday Inn Riverport and the Pavilion Room where our reunion will be held. See the map on our web site at
www.jhs1964.com for more specific directions or call Krieger's at (314) 292-0002. If you're looking to toss a few "warm-ups" the night before the reunion, stop by Krieger's on Friday evening, August 6th for the "Meet and Greet". Everyone is welcome._______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Old Photos, Memorabilia, Other Stuff…
We'll have a table set aside at the reunion party for the display of any old photos, souvenirs or other memorabilia you may want to bring along. Dig into those old photo albums and storage boxes and bring your favorite Jennings school stuff for everyone to enjoy. Things like that mostly empty can of white, Benjamin Moore masonry paint that Hartman has safely stored for 40 years. Or that nice water cooler that Bagot has installed in his dining room! (But, my God, Ellerseick, don't bring that duck!)

Post-Party Hospitality Suite
For those of us who refuse to go down without a fight, we have made arrangements with the Holiday Inn Riverport to have access to a hospitality suite after they toss us out of the Pavilion Room. The hospitality suite will be in the Laclede Room on the main floor of the Holiday Inn Riverport, just around the corner from the front desk. It will be available to us until someone calls the cops.
There is no charge for this post-party celebration and everyone is welcome. The hospitality room will be set with tables and chairs. You are encouraged to bring your own drinks and munchies. However, the bar in Krieger's Pub and Grill will be open (and easily accessible from the Laclede Room) until 1:00 AM for those who'd rather purchase drinks at Krieger's bar than wrestle with ice and coolers. You may also want to bring cups (if you are a sophisticated drinker) and napkins (if you still eat like we remember!).
If you bring a cooler, you will be able to place it in the Laclede Room anytime during the evening of the reunion. If you have drinks that you'd like kept cold for you and don't have a cooler, the Manager at Krieger's Pub and Grill has generously offered to keep your drinks cold in their bar area until we move into the hospitality room. Just inquire at the bar. But, remember, when they close Krieger's at 1:00 AM, there will be no access to their bar, so keep an eye on the clock if you store your drinks in Krieger's Pub.
Special Room Rate Reminder
If you'll be staying at the Holiday Inn on August 7th and haven't booked your room yet, remember that the deadline for the special $79 Jennings High School room rate is Wednesday, July 21th. Rooms booked after that date will be $99 each. Call 800-465-4329 for special rate room reservations.
If you communicate with someone who is planning on attending the reunion, but has no email or web access, please make an effort to pass this late news on to them by phone or in person. Thanks!
See you on the 7th!

Reunion Update and Directions
Your reunion committee met last night and did a final walk-through with the staff at the Pavilion Room, the site of our 40th Reunion on Saturday, August 7, 2004. We wanted to remind those attending that the dress will be casual and that there will be a table set aside for the display of photo albums and other treasures you may want to bring with you. Everyone is encouraged to bring a camera if possible as photo opportunities should be abundant.
We also learned that the room for our party may be a bit tricky to find if you've not been there before, so here are more detailed driving directions. You may want to print out the directions and bring them along on August 7th. Here's how to get there:
From I-70 take the Earth City Expressway SOUTH to Riverport Drive North. Turn RIGHT on Riverport Drive North and follow the curve around as it bends left until you pass the United Healthcare office complex on your right. The reunion will be in the Pavilion Room which is the next building WEST of the United Healthcare office building.
The Pavilion Room is NOT physically connected to the Holiday Inn Riverport. In fact, Krieger's Pub and Grill restaurant actually lies between the Holiday Inn and the Pavilion Room where the reunion will be held. Easiest parking will be in front of Krieger's restaurant.
As you face the front of the Holiday Inn Riverport, you will see Krieger's Pub and Grill restaurant connected to the right side of the hotel. Then, just to the right of Krieger's is the Pavilion Room where the reunion will be held. We hope to have signs and markers up to help you quickly find the party.
If you get lost or confused, just step into Krieger's and ask someone there. The staff will all know where the reunion party is, because it's right next door.
Since we will have access to both the lakeside patio and the air conditioned Pavilion Room everyone is encouraged to dress casual and comfortable for an August evening in St. Louis.
See you there!
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ July 2, 2004 Grand Kids in the News
Doris (Rouse) Weicht (above) recently dashed off to Olathe, Kansas to greet her first grandchild, August (Gus) Maxwell Oppeau, born to Doris' daughter Amy Oppeau and her husband Todd on May 8, 2004. Fortunately, the Missouri State Highway Patrol was never able to catch up to Doris as she raced across the state on I-70. Little "Gus" weighed in at 5 pounds 10 ounces and is 19 1/2" long. Doris says that Gus "loves his grandma!" That's nice. We just hope he doesn't drive like her.
Karen (Pluemer) Conley and her husband, Jim, welcomed new grandson Nicholas James, born to Jim's daughter, Erin on Monday, June 28, 2004. Nicholas weighed in at 6lbs. 6 oz., 19 1/2 inches long. Karen says "Nicholas joins a family of 3 older sisters so I'm sure by the time he's old enough to get married he'll already be used to following suggestions from women....what a catch he'll be! Since all along most of the doctors thought he was going to be a girl, of course last night I had to visit the local department store and stock him up with the "blues" - he's so pretty but probably wouldn't appreciate lace, bows & pink when he's 3."
____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Reunion Reservation Deadline ExtendedThe deadline for reservations for our 40th Reunion Celebration has been extended to July 21, 2004. Please get your checks and information in. $40.00 per person.
The cutoff date for the block of Special Rate rooms at the Holiday Inn Riverport is Friday, July 16th. If you are going to need a room, be sure to contact the hotel before then. Special room rate for Jennings High School is $79.00 good until July 16th. Toll-Free: 800-465-4329.
Thanks,
Your Reunion Committee
____________________________________________________________________________________________________ June 17, 2004 Ron DuRall
April 14, 1946 - May 27, 2004
Unfortunately, the first bit of news that we have to report this month is sad. We received an email from Ron DuRall's wife, Carol, informing us that Ron had passed away on May 27, 2004 after a long illness. From our web page, Carol sent us the following:
"Update: My name is Carol DuRall I am Rons' wife and I wanted to let you know that Ron passed away of gallbladder cancer after battling hard and strong for 1 1/2 yrs. He passed on Thursday, May 27th. He was such a lovely husband, father and grandfather and he is goin go to be missed greatly by all of us. Since we were not able to attend the reunion because of the illness I just wanted to share his passing with you. Please enjoy your time together."
After several email exchanges with Carol DuRall in which some classmates shared their favorite "Ron" stories, Carol sent the following comments that we wanted to share with everyone:
"Thank you for getting back to me....I would really love to hear from some of Ron's friends, it has really been a tough yr and half for Ron and we are going to miss him greatly, so please encourage anyone who would like to drop our family a line to please do that....thank you sooo much, Carol"
"Thank you for sharing this story with me. Ron told me of many adventures he had and I'm sure skipped a few that were a bit more adventurous. When Don was visiting after we lost Ron he shared many more of these stories with me, Ron never lacked having a good time. With all my heart I hope Ron's adventure is continuing without pain and grief and that when we meet again he will have more great adventures to share. thank you so much for sharing."
