 40th Reunion Biography Update

BAGOT, GEORGE 

George had an industrial paint and coating company from 1988 to 1999.  He hired 30 teamsters, 2 chemists, lab techs, office people, and salesmen.  George is currently trying to finish his first book, a historical novel based on his mom’s family in Virginia just prior to and during the American Revolution.  He goes back to visit there often.  They’ve been in the Bluegrass Valley in West  Virginia since 1732 (eastern Virginia since 1609) and appears they may be there another 400 years or so.  He comments “I thought I knew American History pretty well but God, the research involved is tedious. 

George was unable to attend the reunion..

 

BAILEY (HAWKINS), SANDY 

Sandy and Dale have been married 37 years.  Their son Mark has three children, Dillon-8 8 years old , Chad 5, and Alyssa 2.  Their daughter Lori blessed them with an 18 month old grandchild named Bailey. 

Sandy retired from Children’s hospital after 30 years.  Dale has retired from the Creve Coeur Police Department after 30 years and is now the security manager for Monsanto World Headquarters. 

Sandy’s hobbies are reading, dancing, and playing with Bailey.  Her favorite vacation spot is anywhere Mark is stationed (he’s in the Navy).  Her favorite high school memory was the schedule during finals; you took a test and then had time to study for the next final at Marie Centunzi’s house.  She also loved dancing at lunch.

BERGER, JOHN and SUSAN (O’DONNELL) 

John and sue have four children (Scott/34, Amy/32, Joy/25 and Hope/25)  Scott lives just a little over 1 mile from them in St. Charles (IL) and works for the county in historic preservation.  He is currently working on his masters degree in Historic Preservation at the Art Institute of Chicago. 

Amy is married and has three children (Courtney/14, Kjerstine/10, Tommy/8).  Amy, Tom, and their family live in Pendleton, IN.  She is completing her degree in Early Childhood Development. 

Joy lives in St. Charles but loves to travel, especially to Italy.  She is now working for a company who may be paying her to do just that.  Hope is married and lives just 2 miles from them.  She and her husband, Tom, have 2 cats, but promise them that there will be grandchildren sometime soon. 

John realized his dream of having his own cutting edge business, industrial air pollution equipment.  He enjoys going to work in his sweats most days.  Sue enjoys the freedom of scheduling her own time. 

They celebrated their 35th Anniversary  with a cruise to Alaska.  They are determined to return to see more of its beauty.  Their favorite place to visit would be in the western mountains. 

Their hobbies include hiking, cycling, sailing, and shopping.  They both also enjoy the work they do with the Gideon's International:  John is the Membership Program Assistant, and Sue is the Illinois State Auxiliary Scripture Coordinator. 

Among their favorite high school memories are:  Friday night basketball games, sock hops, pizza at Cusie's and cruising Steak and Shake.

BUEHLER, LESTER 

Les has been teaching for the past 36 years.  He is currently teaching at Gateway Middle School and coaching football and track at Lindbergh High School. 

He has two sons and one step daughter (another stepdaughter is deceased).  His eldest son graduated from Truman State and is an accountant and CPA.  His youngest is a graduate of West Point and the Wharton School of Business and is an engineer.  His step daughter is a student at Houston Baptist University.  His wife, June, works for the US Government.  Les also has three grandchildren. 

Les’s recent travels include China (2000) Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic (2001), Japan (2002) and seminars in North Dakota and Stanford University (2003).

DAVIESS, DORIS (LEUCHAU) 

Doris has been married to John for 37 years, a retired math/computer science teacher. 

They have two children. Their son Paul who is an electrical/mechanical engineer for Watlow in Columbia, MO.  Paul has two boys; Zachary 8 and Nathan 5.  Their daughter Lisa is a Title Research Specialist for Net5co.  Doris is a Software Systems Engineer for MetLife (formerly General American Life Ins.) and a Lotus Notes Administrator since 1968.  She plans to retire in 41/2 years. 

Their favorite vacation spot is Disney World but they have also traveled extensively in the US, Alaska in particular.  They’ve also whale watched in Baja, Mexico.  A trip is planned to the Galapagos in 2005 with Jack and Judy  Nieman (Wapelhorst). 

Hobbies include reading, traveling, and computing.  Doris’ favorite high school memory was working on the prom her junior year.

DIX. CRISTA (GOULD) 

Crista  and Mike have been married for 35 years.  They have one son, Brian, and a daughter, Paula, and 3 grand children—Andy 14, Jacob 9, and Alex  7. 

Cris works part time at St. Luke’s Medical Center for 2 years as a cardiac stress lab tech.  Mike is a structural steel retailer.  Cris states “our family keeps us from retiring-they’re expensive!” 

Crista’s favorite vacation spot is Lake of the Ozarks—“where else?”  For hobbies she enjoys gardening, making jewelry, sewing, Bible studies, and being a grandma. 

Cris remembers coming to Jennings in the 9th grade.  This was her 4th school in 3 years.  She says it was “a difficult time but well worth it.  I was accepted right away and made life long friends.  Thanks, friends!”  In high school she loved chorus, basketball games, proms, sleep overs, and Steak and Shake.

DURALL, RONALD 

It with great sadness to inform you that Ron passed away this year.  Please see the following e-mail from his wife Carol: 

“My name is Carol DuRall.  I am Ron’s wife and I wanted to let you know that Ron passed away of gallbladder cancer after battling hard and strong for 1 ½ years.  He passed on Thursday, May 27th, 2004.  He was such a lovely husband, father, and grandfather and he is going to be missed greatly by all of us.  Since we were not able to attend the reunion because of his illness I just wanted to share his passing with you.  Please enjoy your time together.” 

 

ERSON, KARAN (KEMP) 

Karan and Tom have been married for 36 years.  They have 3 children—Mark 35, Rachel 33, and Rebecca 27.  They have 5 grandchildren between 5 & 9. 

Karan taught Physical Education and retired 2 years ago.  Tom has also retired.  They plan to do some traveling, home projects, spend time with family and friends, and Karan plans on teaching part time when “convenient”. 

Karen’s hobbies are gardening, sewing, tennis, and hiking.  Among her favorite high school memories are sock hops, basketball games, school plays, driving through  Steak and Shake, and slumber parties.

HALTIWANGER, DONA (FLORY) 

Dona and her husband Curt have 3 children:  Brett, 34; Julia, 24; John, 20.  Dona is an Elementary school librarian with no retirement plans as yet. 

Dona’s favorite vacation spot is Charleston, SC and the beach (Curt is from there).  She also enjoys traveling to Europe and visiting friends. 

Her hobbies include reading and going for long walks.  Her high school memories include stuffing all the3 Kleenex for the basketball and prom.  She also re3members the senior picnic.

HARVEY, DAISY (LANDHOLT) 

Daisy has been married and divorced with no children.  She spent 31 years teaching elementary school in various towns in  Missouri and Southern Illinois.  She also taught in a private school in Creve Coeur and Ladue.  She retired in June, 2001 and says, “retirement is WONDERFUL!!” 

Her favorite vacation spot is Southern Florida on the Gulf side and the western and southern Caribbean.  She is able to travel November to March in the south with her “wonderful travel companion, Carl Jonas.  Her hobbies include reading, traveling, and doing lunch.  She also likes “being blissfully smug every Sunday evening since I’ve retired. 

Daisy remembers an evening on the SS Admiral, the Sunday night before we graduated. A few creative senior males were emptying boxes of popcorn and using them as a disguise to tale liquor off the tables around the dance floor.  Does anyone else remember this caper?    She also vaguely remembers two of our male classmates dancing together on the dance floor.

HENRY, THOMAS 

Tom reports that “retirement takes a lot of time”.  He is busy by opening up a new restaurant on August 4th called The Wine Experience.  He already has a stand alone operation and this will be a new operation will be in the Younkers Department Store (part of Saks).  His restaurant will include a café with interesting light items and wine by the glass.  He hopes to repeat this project in other  Saks stores around the country.   

Because of the opening of the restaurant, Tom was unable to attend the reunion. 

 

HOFF, PAM (HOLMES) 

Pam is divorced and has two sons, Scott and Matt.  She has 1 granddaughter, Matt’s daughter (Brianna, 9) and 2 almost granddaughters (daughters of Scott fiancée) Shawntrell, 15 and Deanna, 13.  Shawntrell placed third in the state French exam and 7th in the nation.  Deanna is a ballerina and was a tin soldier in the school’s production of the Nutcracker. 

Pam works as a file clerk for the Environmental Group at Dinsmore and Shoal, Attorneys at Law.  They represent the landfill sites where toxic waste was dumped , spilled, or leaked. 

Pam enjoys coming back to St. Louis and taking her mom and dad to her dad’s WWII Navy Reunion.   Her hobbies include genealogy, crafts, and dressing dolls  for the Salvation Army . 

Pam’s favorite memory was decorating for the prom and making all of those “lovely” Kleenex flowers, attending basketball games and yelling and screaming for our team and being with all my friends. 

Pam attended the reunion but left her two dogs and soft-shelled turtle at home. 

 

IBORG, DENNIS AND BARBARA (GAMMILL)

 Dennis and Barb have been married for 38 years .  They have 3 children and 7 grand children:  Shannon has 4 children  Jessica 16, Kenny 14, Becca 10, and Mikaya  6.  Heather, their middle child lives in Mexico, MO with her husband and two dogs.  Justin lives in Troy, MO and has 3 children Hannah 5, Hayden 2, and newborn Hadly Rose.  He is a biochemist and runs a lawn cutting service. 

Dennis is still working at GKN Aerospace (formerly Mc Donnell-Douglas and Boeing) and is looking forward to retirement in the next few years.  Barb is a stay at home wife which gives her time to take care of both her and Dennis’ mothers.

LAMINGER, JEANNE (LANG)

 Jean and Larry have been married 36 years.  They have two children and 4 grandchildren:  Danny (32) and Natalie Laminger-Jamie 11, Carly 10, and Lucas 7;   Shelly (30) and Phil McGuire-Maddison Marie (Marie after Jeans mom). 

Larry retired in September, 2003.  they sold their St. Louis home and moved to their lake house of nine years at the Lake of the Ozarks.  After the chaos of adding an addition  to our home and unpacking, they are now enjoying retirement.  Larry  is going to do independent bank consulting. 

Jean and Larry added to their home and included a dance studio. Since Jean taught the last 18  years in St. Louis, she plans to start classes in September by offering Senior Citizen tap, Ballroom, Imperial, and Country Western. 

Jean and Larry’s favorite vacation spot is Hawaii (they’ve been there eight times.  She has even decorated several rooms at their lake house in a Hawaiian motif.  Her hobbies are boating, Sea Doo riding, dancing, entertaining, hosting company and reading. 

Among Jean’s high school memories are:  Warren Hartman performing Dudley Do-Right and plunking out Rhapsody in Blue on the nearest piano; basketball games, cheerleading, our “riot”, proms, lots of good friends, no cares, fun, Karan Kemps “Old Betsy”, going steady with Glenn DeWees, Steak and Shake, pooling together our change to put a gallon of gas in George Bagot’s car, and our famous “64” on the school chimney which resulted in our class gift to the school-a clean, sandblasted chimney!

 NIEHAUS, CARL 

Carl is a quality programs for the Non Stop Division (formerly Tandem Computers) of Hewlett-Packard in Cupertino, CA.  While retirement is 3 to 8 years away, he will split this time  between California, Switzerland, and France.  His favorite vacation spot is Switzerland where, for the past 20 years, he has spent about 4 weeks hiking in the Swiss Alps. 

Carl’s hobbies include hiking, wine, and music.  His favorite high school memories are singing and performing in Jack Maier's  musical, comedy productions (High  Button Shoes, Little Mary Sunshine, and the Portable Playhouse which toured other schools as well as a VA mental hospital). 

Carl was unable to attend the reunion as he was hiking in the alps. 

 

SCHUERMANN, STEVEN (Class of '65)

Steve is married and has two children and one grand daughter.  He is a retired police sergeant.  His favorite vacation spots are the  Caribbean and Tampa Florida. 

Steve, who is from the class of 65 attended the reunion. 

 

SHORT, PAT (RYAN) 

Pat and her husband Roger have been married for 29 years.  They have two daughters, Megan who is in her 3rd year of law school at Vanderbilt and Alison who is working toward her RN in Phoenix. 

Pat is a PE teacher at Prescott High School in Arizona.  Retirement may be a few years away but she really enjoys the kids. 

Her favorite vacation spot is anything Tropical.  Hobbies include golfing and quilting.

Her high school memories are few but fond.  She wishes she would have stayed in touch with some of us.  If we ever visit Flagstaff, Phoenix, or Prescott we should give here a call.  Maybe we should all go at once to surprise her!!

SWEETNAM, JUDI (BAR0NE) 

Judi has been married to Bill for 20 years.  She has one daughter 30, who is expecting her first child, and one step-son, 31, who is married. 

Judi currently works for a psychiatric hospital (5 years) and prior to that she worked at International Business College (13 years) where she taught shorthand, English, accounting, office procedures, etc.  She plans to work another 5 to 8 years. 

Judi’s hobby is tennis and more tennis!  In addition she enjoys hiking, skiing, scuba diving, shopping, and her daughter.  Her favorite high school memory was fear in going to Mrs. Schultz’s short hand class.  She says, “she made me learn it and it helped me in life later to get a job teaching it.  Thanks to Mrs. Schultz!!” 

Judi spent 7 years in Mexico, living in swimsuit and barefoot.  “Great life but got boring.  Now I miss it.”

LARRY SMITH 

Larry’s wife Bonnie passed away on 9/23/01.  He has 3 grown children:  Shannon Comcila, Stephanie Malone, and Samantha Smith and  two grandchildren, Tory (7) and Carmen (3). 

Larry is currently the assistant Superintendent in the Affton School District.  He plans to retire in May, 2005 from education but will continue to play music and teach college. 

Larry enjoys the white sandy beaches in Kawai, Hawaii.   He also enjoys singing and playing saxophone in a local band, Butch Wax and the Hollywoods. 

His favorite school memory is the mysterious painting of “64” on the high school chimney. 

Larry attended the reunion with Joy Burkhart, his significant other.

  

SYRETT-CRONIN, ELAINE 

Elaine is married and has two step-children.  She is retired and is loving every minute of it. 

Her favorite vacation spots are Alaska and  Hawaii as well as cruises.  Hobbies include Water Aerobics and helping senior citizens by taking them to the doctors and shopping.  Elaine says all of her memories of high school were good ones.

TAYLOR, WILLIAM 

Bill has been married to Julie  Webb for 37 years.  They have two children, Joann and Kirk, and one grandchild, Mason, age 11.

 Bill is the director of  Sales Storage and Warehouse, USA in Pontoon Beach, Il.  He is a broker in steel.  He is now semi-retired and plans to continue buying and selling steel for one more year. 

Bills favorite vacation spot is Sanibel/Captiva, Fort Meyers, Florida where Julie has two cousins—one is wealthy and the other a pauper (he’s lots of fun).  His hobbies include trout fishing, old cars, and car shows.

TAYLOR, GLENN 

Glenn is currently married to Carol (4 years in August).  He has a son, Michael, a step- daughter Daphne, and 3 grandchildren Lauren, Luke, and Logan.  He is currently employed by Scholastic Library Publishing (Grolier and Children’s Press) selling books to school  and public libraries.  He enjoys working on the school schedules with summers off. 

Glenn and Carol enjoy their future retirement residence at Lake of the Ozarks.  You will find them there just about any weekend all year long.  His hobbies include boating and floating at the Lake, reading and music. 

His favorite high school memories get harder to remember as he gets older but they were all good.  He  has enjoyed working on the past reunion committees and is honored to being asked to be master of ceremonies  at the festivities again.

WALKER, DIANE 

Diane is single and has two children, Christine and Joe and 3 grandchildren—Brittany (15), Alexis (11), and Katie (1).  She has been employed for 16 years doing Government work in Florida. 

Diane’s favorite high school memory was being asked , as a sophomore, to attend the Jr-Sr  Prom.

WEIDNER, DON 

Don is married to Sharon and has two children, Michelle and Scott and two grandchildren, Michaela and Harry. 

Don has retired after 37 years as a teamster.  His favorite vacation spot is Las Vegas.  He enjoys furniture refinishing and his favorite high school memory is Graduation.
